According to a recent study by Chapin Hall at the University of Chicago: ● One in 30 youth ages 13 to 17 and one in 10 young adults ages 18 to 25 endure some form of homelessness in the U.S. each year. ● LGBTQ youth are 120% more more likely to experience homelessness than non-LGBTQ youth.
● Researching, publishing and disseminating a report that measures, scores and reports on the systems, environment, and laws of all 50 states and D.C. as they relate to youth homelessness. ● The Index looks at 61 metrics in 50 states and District of Columbia, assigning points up to 100.

● Surveying the state laws of all 50 states to determine the current laws related to: ○ definitions, ○ diversionary programs, ○ criminalization and status offenses, ○ emancipation, ○ right to contract, ○ health care access, ○ discharge from the juvenile justice system, ○ access to federal benefits, ○ access to public education

● The Index will be updated annually to reflect progress made. ● New criteria will be introduced to further assess states commitments towards preventing and ending youth homelessness. ● Expect the 2019 State Index Report in late 2019 or early 2020!
