Accelerating the transition to agroforestry with technology Kristoffer Rønn-Andersen CEO and Founder of Regen Farmer MSc. Eng. from Technical University of Denmark
Why Regen Farmer work with agroforestry Nr. 1 - Sweden Even in the number 1 and 2 SDG ranking countries in the world, there is still not a sustainable solution when it comes to land use, agriculture and nature. Nr. 2 - Denmark We need to fix this and agroforestry is one of the greatest opportunities. Source: https://sdgindex.org/reports/sdg-index-and-dashboards-2018/
Regen Farmer Vision Vision: Accelerate the transition to agroforestry Goal: facilitate transition of 5 million hectares by 2025 How: Apply technology to accelerate the transition by making agroforestry a cheap, fast and convenient option. Transition Consolidation Screening and Design and planning Implementation Management and assessment monitoring
Why this transition requires technology 5 mil. ha Technology is scalable (cheap, fast and convenient) I’m not scalable Time (limited)
Technologies Remote sensing and IoT Big data and Simulation and modelling data analysis
Technology-problem fit Major problems with accelerating transition Customized and context- Manage complexity of specific solution - Each Speed and iteration agroforestry systems farm is unique (fast and cheap) (Convenient and cheap) (Convenient) Simulation and Big data and data analysis Remote sensing modelling and IoT
Technology and transitional stages Design and Management Assessment planning and monitoring Remote sensing and IoT Big data and data analysis Simulation and modelling

Our solutions
How the agroforestry screening works Interface Algorithm Database Best practice Agroforestry system farms + research suitability results Data layers
Finding the best solutions through our database Identify or develop custom systems Ecoregions total = 867 (600) System types = 18 (50) - No species 600 * 50 = 30.000 options+ Based on best practice and research
Cases
Farm level screening Alley cropping system in Kenya Location: Ngulu, Kenya Type: Conventional Size: 1-12 ha Screening for farm in Kenya. Based on the screning an alley cropping system with annual crop rotation and a tree row system with 3 different trees species were identified as the most appropriate.
Farm level screening Grazed orchard system in Denmark Location: Fyn, Denmark Type: Organic Size: 4 ha Screening of farm in Denmark. Based on the screening a grazed orchard system were identified as the most appropriate.
Regional screening Climate adaptation and mitigation through agroforestry Location: Denmark Type: Mixed Size: 14680 ha area assessed The assessment of Faxe municipality watershed involved data layers about land use, vegetation, administrative layers, soil pH, hydrology and topography. Based on the assessment 6 specific existing farms were identified for further exploration to implement a Silvopoultry agroforestry system.
Assessment and design model prototype example Location: Denmark Type: Regenerative Size: 4 ha
