  3. 6/3/2019 PCORI Dissemination and Implementation Program Funding Initiatives Goal: To facilitate the uptake and integration of evidence from PCORI‐funded studies into real‐world practice, in the context of other relevant evidence • Limited Competition: Implementation of PCORI‐Funded PCOR Results Provides PCORI investigator teams the opportunity to propose next steps to put their findings into practice (up to $1M in direct costs per project) • Implementation of Effective Shared Decision Making Approaches in Practice Settings Promotes the implementation and systematic uptake of shared decision making in practice settings (up to $1.5M in total costs per project) • Implementation of Findings from PCORI’s Major Research Investments Provides a broad applicant pool the opportunity to propose strategies to put evidence from specific, high‐priority PCORI initiatives into practice, in the context of related evidence (up to $2.5M in total costs per project) 5 Snapshot of Funded Dissemination and Implementation Awards First awards: December 2016 Number funded: 25 Total PCORI investment: $29M Project budgets: $500K to $2.2M Implementation sites : in 32 states 6 3

  4. 6/3/2019 Dissemination and Implementation Program Activities Current (D&)I Awards PCORI Research Findings Public Reporting • PCORI Peer Review Evidence Assessment Targeted Dissemination Targeted Implementation Audience Assessment Broad Health System Implementation with AHRQ Informed Decisions Changes in Behavior, Practice, Systems Better Health Outcomes 7 Dissemination Support Channels: The Eugene Washington PCORI Engagement Award Program Overall Goals of the Engagement Award Program: • To fund projects to equip patients and other stakeholders to engage as meaningful partners in PCOR/CER, from topic selection to design and conduct of research and on to dissemination and implementation of results • Support organizations with constituents who view them as trusted sources of health information to conduct projects to lay the groundwork for disseminating and implementing research results or products derived from PCORI or related studies 8 4

  5. 6/3/2019 Engagement Award: Dissemination Initiative Funding • Funding for projects designed by organizations and communities with established relationships with end users to actively disseminate findings from PCORI‐funded studies • Dissemination strategies may be used together—in combination or in sequence—to: Increase the reach of evidence o Increase people’s motivation to use and apply evidence o Increase people’s ability to use and apply evidence o • Project activities may include developing, demonstrating, and evaluating the processes/pathways/tools necessary to incorporate PCOR/CER results into decision‐making settings. PCORI Dissemination and Implementation Program Funding Initiatives • Since the Engagement Award Program began in 2015, we have awarded approximately $11M to support 42 Dissemination Awards • In 2018, the Program began to emphasize its interest in supporting dissemination and implementation capacity building projects as well as conferences seeking to actively disseminate PCORI‐funded research findings • We have awarded (included in total above): 36 Engagement Award Projects focused on Dissemination o 6 Engagement Award Conferences focused on Dissemination o Anticipate many more! o 10 5
