PGSO musicians also: • Teach young musicians privately, and through programs such as El Sistema , that reaches out to youth without the means to pay for lessons • Invite promising young musicians to learn performance skills though the “side by side” program • Support musical and ballet performances throughout the community
1971 : The “New Caledonia Chamber Orchestra” evolved into the New Caledonia Symphony Orchestra and then, in 1977 , the Prince George Symphony Orchestra 1991 : Beginning of ongoing “Nutcracker” collaboration with Judy Russell’s Enchainment Dance Studio 1994 : Gordon Lucas began his 13 years as Concertmaster 2003 : An accumulated debt of $120,000 and a continuing operating deficit led to a new strategic plan and business plan. The City provided a loan of $50,000 to be paid by 2020 2007 : Jose Delgado-Guevara succeeded Gordon Lucas as Concertmaster 2009-2010 : Cash crunch averted thanks to patron generosity

Strategic Plan (early 2015) In three years the PGSO is to be: on a solid financial footing with diversified funding sources. engaged with and valued by a broader spectrum of the community through public education, school performances and pre-concert talks. a symphony with a full core of musicians, with more services, more community players, and more regular rehearsals (focused on investing in the quality of our orchestra). maintaining a cadre of committed volunteers.
The Prince George symphony Orchestra is central to the civic life of the City and the Region. But we want to: • extend the audience base, • involve more of the community as volunteers and musicians, • become more involved in music education, and • minimize financial uncertainty
