2023 Canada Winter Games Bid Yellowknife Ski Club Support
Motion ∗ That the Board supports in principle the bid submission for Yellowknife to host the Canada Winter Games, and pending support from the membership at large, the Board will formally endorse the bid submission. ∗ General Meeting for the purpose of informing the membership of the CWG proposal and to seek endorsement from the membership to support the CWG bid submission.
Current State of Affairs ∗ Canada Winter Games Working Committee formed by City of Yellowknife. ∗ Includes 18 members representing Government, First Nations, Business, Tourism, Sports (Sports North), School Boards. ∗ Due to report back to City Council with recommendation for or against hosting CWG in 2015
CWG Evaluation Report ∗ Preliminary step to support the determination of the major expenditures required to bring the current facilities up to the standards expected to host the CWG in the sports of Biathlon (BT) and Cross Country Skiing (XC). The major focus was on the two stadiums, BT range and the trail specifications required for the limited competition formats proposed in the CWG Technical Hosting Requirements for each sport. ∗ On site review was conducted with the assistance of Yellowknife Ski Club representatives: Ted Kimmins as Biathlon Coordinator and Club President, John Stephenson
