  2. Guiding Principles The Central Valley School District will meet our students, staff and community at their readiness level as we return to school in the fall. By doing so, we will build greater confidence in and deliver on our ability to provide a high quality educational experience for our students. We will provide in-person learning and teaching to the greatest extent allowable by local and state officials. We will adopt a robust virtual learning curriculum for all CVSD students, providing instructor-led online courses to students in an interactive learning experience, not a textbook online. This learning & teaching choice allows for continuity in the event of school closures and an option for families into the future. We will plan for multiple scenarios and have the necessary health and safety protocols in place to protect students, staff, and community. By doing so we will be a resource to our health department in combating the COVID-19 outbreak.

  8. CRITICAL DATA STRATEGIES, LLC Parent/Guardian Fall 2020 Survey Summary & Overall Insights for Central Valley School District June – July 2020 Critical Data developed and implemented an online personalized chat bot survey made available to all parents and guardians of students at all schools within the Central Valley School District. Each parent/guardian received an email containing a link to complete this online chat bot survey. The survey was conducted from June 22, 2020 through June 26, 2020 and resulted in a total of 4,091 completed surveys. Responses were evenly distributed across the district and across grade levels.

  9. Parent/Guardian Fall 2020 Survey 67.0% of the total respondent group state that they are extremely likely to send their child/children back to in-person school this fall. An additional 2.8% are somewhat likely to send their child/children to in-person school this fall, thus 69.8% are likely to send their child to in-person school this fall.

  10. Parent/Guardian Fall 2020 Survey 62% of the total parent/guardian group has some concerns relating to returning to in-person school in the fall. Respondents interpreted this question in several ways. Some voiced concerns – both large and smaller – that worry them regarding returning to in-person school. While others are troubled in the event that their child/children cannot return to in-person school and spoke to those issues. Primary issues with child returning to in-person school Concerned with child/children wearing a mask all day No vaccine developed Primary issues if child cannot return to in-person school Child falling behind without in-person learning Concerns with online learning effectiveness Child’s need for social and emotional interaction with others Before/after school childcare issues

  11. Parent/Guardian Fall 2020 Survey Overall Insights • A definite divide exists between the two thirds of parents/guardians who are hoping and planning for in-person school and the one third who are not receptive to sending their child/children back to in-person classes. • Masks appear to be a major issue. A high percentage of respondents do not want their child wearing masks all day, but want them returning to in-person classes. Conversely a number of parents/guardians stated that the fact that their child would be required to wear a mask was a reason they would not send their child back to in-person school. • A large number of parents and guardians work outside of the home and have issues with leaving their child unsupervised and un-mentored if a virtual path is pursued. As parents, this group does not have the time or in some cases the abilities to assist their child. • Surprisingly with this group of nearly 4,100 respondents, transportation appears to be a minor issue. Two thirds of the parents and guardians seem prepared to transport their own students whether or not the district has transportation available, and more than 8 out of 10 are willing to transport in the event that district transportation is limited. • Throughout this survey it is apparent that clear, proactive communication and transparency is valued above everything. Certainly, numerous questions exist, and the district’s ability to respond with clarity, compassion, and transparency will serve to help many of these parents and guardians gain an understanding that will translate to peace of mind as fall approaches.
