2020 General Assembly Session ● Over 3,000 bills introduced and tracked close to 250 bills and state budget ● Provided legislative updates (mostly by topic) to School Board and Senior Leadership Team; specific updates to individual staff members as necessary ● Implement required changes to policy, especially in time for July 1, 2020 effective date—including Student Code of Conduct and Parent Handbook 2
Legislative Principles Chesterfield parents and community members remain steadfast in their support of safe schools, quality teachers & smaller class sizes. ✓ Oppose any new statutory or regulatory requirements that are not fully funded ✓ Support allowing maximum discretion in developing strategies for budget decisions that will reflect the diverse needs of school divisions ✓ Support flexibility or relaxation of certain mandates 3

2021 General Assembly Session ● Planning and preparation for Fall CCPS Legislative Delegation meeting ● Internal discussion regarding CCPS 2021 Legislative Program and budget priorities ● Monitor legislative study committees and reports that may be issued ● Board of Education meetings and recommendations 7
2021 General Assembly Session ● Legislation—Carryover, introduced/(pre)filed ● School Board to adopt 2021 Legislative Program ● Mid-November—Money committees and education committees to meet and plan for upcoming Session ● CCPS Legislative Delegation meeting ● December—Governor to announce budget ● January 2021–2021 Session begins 8
