2019-2021 Theme and Logo Presentation Judy Ganzert International President, 2019-2021 Slide 1 – Title Slide Professionally, I am a teacher of history. Personally, I am a lover of history. As your new President of Alpha Delta Kappa, I am an advocate for using history to learn the lessons for the future … the future of Alpha Delta Kappa. Our first lessons come from our Founders, Agnes, Marie, Hattie, and Marion. Together, they are the (Click – slide 2) Golden HEART of Alpha Delta Kappa. It is from their hearts that we have reached more than 200,000 women in the past 72 years. It is from their hearts that we continue to share Alpha Delta Kappa with educators of excellence and work to sustain our organization for generations to come. When I think of Alpha Delta Kappa, I automatically think of (Click - slide 3) PURPLE The color of our flower, the violet, and the color for which we all seem to gravitate when we choose to decorate … or dress for an Alpha Delta Kappa function. And then I think of (Click - slide 4) green … the last of our colors. Our canvas is beginning to be transformed. As I ponder what will come next for Alpha Delta Kappa, I am reminded of a poem my husband shared with me as we hit a rough patch before we married. Sure, I had heard it before, but it took on a very special meaning for me at that time. Today, it has another special meaning. I am sure you are familiar with Robert Frost’s famous lines Two Roads (Click - slide 5) diverged in a yellow wood, And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood And looked down one as far as I could … Alpha Delta Kappa is at a crossroads. Here we stand in 2019, looking down the paths that lie ahead. Where will they take us? What lies ahead? What will it mean to take one path, but not the other? In life we make decisions. We make choices. Each choice we make leads us to the next fork in the road. And we must make another choice. Agnes made choices. She made choices to always move Forward. Never Backward. The path she, Marie, Hattie, and Marion took, provided us with a foundation for the direction we would take. (Click – slide 6) Excellence in Education (Click - slide 7) Altruism (Click - slide 8) World Understanding First and Foremost, these three Stars represent the MISSION we work to fulfill in all that we do. But ... how will we do this? … Which choices will we make? Which path will we take? We must first, (Click - slide 9) IMAGINE … Imagine what we can be. Fifty years ago, this week, man first landed and walked on the moon. People had probably been imagining what that big ball in the sky was like for thousands of years, and finally, we actually got there. Dreams really do come true. I am a dreamer. Imagine the possibilities. I dream of a revitalized, vital, and innovative Alpha Delta Kappa. I dream that teachers and educators will reach out to others who will join us as we work to promote and recognize excellent educators, provide support for those in need of our altruistic services, and join us as we work to make our world a smaller place with contributions to world understanding, goodwill, and peace through an international fellowship of educators united in the ideals of education. Next, we must (Click - slide 10) BELIEVE … we must believe that the work we hope to accomplish will be accomplished. We must believe that WE can be successful in spreading our mission and even more.
And then we must (Click - slide 11) ACT Walt Disney told us that a dream without action is just a wish. Patti Abbot asked us to DARE TO VENTURE . Our mission is not going to be accomplished without help. We can no longer continue to expect that someone else will make it happen. We … each and every one of us … must step out of our comfort zone and DO WHAT IT TAKES to make our Dreams come true. And Lastly, … we must (Click - slide 12) ACHIEVE We cannot give up. Did our Founders give up? No, they packed that car with their hats, gloves, supplies, and even cookies, week after week. It’s not an easy task, but it is not an impossible task. Impossible. Think about that word… I’M POSSIBLE. Yes. Together WE can achieve our dreams. I shall be telling this with a sigh Somewhere ages and ages hence: Two roads diverged in a wood, and I— I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference. Alpha Delta Kappa is indeed at a crossroads. Here we are. Looking down the paths? Our choices will make a difference. What choices will we make? Which path will we take? So many decisions. Infinite choices. So many actions. Just as Agnes, Marie, Hattie and Marion were visionaries, we must be as well. Our future can be as bright as the stars while holding on to the Heart of our Founders. Which path will we take? We will take the path of (Click - slide 13) Infinite Possibilities This is our Future. …… Thank you.
