As a kindergarten team... - 57 years of teaching experience - 18 different schools - 3 school districts - Bachelor’s Degrees in Elementary Education and/or Special Education - Master’s Degrees in Developmental Strategies or Teaching and Curriculum - 2 currently working on Master’s in Instructional Media and Technology - Strengths - Flexibility, differentiated instruction, patience, collaborative practices and fostering a safe and inviting learning community. 8

Changes to Transportation ● Written consent from parent/guardian must be provided to go home a different way or with another person. ○ Last minute changes can be called into school ○ Please do not email the teacher! ● Children are not permitted to ride a different bus. ● PM KDG Bus Riders: Bus company requires an adult or high school sibling to meet child at bus stop or child will be brought back to the school. 26
Absences from School EXCUSE CARDS/DOCUMENTATION OF ABSENCES 1. If your student is absent from school, please call the East High office to report the absence. It is also required that you complete an excuse card and submit it on the first day your student returns from an absence. 2. Failure to submit an excuse card or medical documentation within THREE school days of an absence will result in the absence(s) being coded as illegal. 3. If a child is absent for three or more consecutive days, a medical excuse is required for these absences. 27
Absences from School Excusable absences include: 1. Legitimate illness 2. Medical/dental appointments 3. Quarantine 4. Death in the immediate family 5. Impassable roads 6. Exceptionally urgent reasons that affect the child as determined by the administration 7. Educational trip experiences pre-approved by the principal - - A student is permitted, through pre-approval by the principal, an absence to attend educational trip experiences, for a maximum of 5 days per school year. An “Educational Field Trip Request” form must be completed and submitted to the principal at least 5 school days PRIOR to the scheduled trip. 28
Absences from School PENNSYLVANIA COMPULSORY SCHOOL ATTENDANCE LAWS 1. Upon accumulation of three illegal absences, a first official notice be mailed to the parent(s)/guardian(s). 2. Letters are also sent when a student accumulates six and ten illegal absences. 3. A student is “truant” upon accumulation of six illegal absences, at which point an attendance meeting will be offered to the student and family. 4. A student is “habitually truant” upon accumulation of ten illegal absences, at which point a truancy citation can be filed and is subject to legal penalties. 29
Absences from School EXCESSIVE EXCUSED ABSENCES Once a student accumulates ten excused absences, all future absences or partial absences will require a medical excuse. A notification letter will be sent to parent(s)/guardian(s) when a student has reached this criteria. Failure to provide documentation from a medical professional for each additional absence or partial absence will result in the absence being coded as illegal/unexcused. 30
