BCOH Goals • To teach and discuss the signs/symptoms of suicide emphasizing the need to be resilient and teachable to 1000 youth and families across the Navajo Nation. MET • To establish a working team; comprehensive of health, youth, data, education, public safety, and business professionals. MET • Plan, provide and move the initiative to address the prevention, intervention, and postvention tasks related suicide within a sixty (60) day period and continue year around. MET • To define and establish four (4) local crisis response/postvention teams within the first year; to provide immediate community support and suppress suicide contagion. MET • To identify funding sources and develop two (2) grant proposals within the first year to attend to postvention, a Navajo Nation crisis hotline, data surveillance tools, community policing or ongoing prevention activities. BCOH Evaluation • After each BCOH, evaluations are completed • 3,915 Evaluation Analyzed Throughout 2015-2017. • Evaluation collects: • Demographics • Utilizes Likert Scale on Perception on Event • Comments and Recommendations • Standardized Evaluation Form • Compare • Develop Trends • Enhance Services
BCOH Demographics: Gender 47% of the participants were male, 52% were female, and a less than 2% reported LGBTQ.
BCOH Demographic: Age Group In the BCOH events, 83% of the participants were youth ages 0-17, followed by those aged 18-29. Adult participation was at 17%.
BCOH Question: Presentation is Useful to Me The following chart reports the information presented was useful to the participants. Approximately 4% did not consider the presentation useful at all.
BCOH Question: Help/Support Out There Most participants believe there is help/support out there. About 2% did not believe there is help/support is out there. Recommendations include media coverage in schools, school events and outreach, events for youth in the communities.
BCOH Question: Over Satisfaction Approximately 80% of the participants were satisfied with the BCOH event.
