2009 Presentation Day and 2008-09 Season Awards Bert Graham Pool, 29 March The final event of the 2008-2009 swimming season was the club’s annual Presentation Day, held at the Bert Graham pool on Sunday March 29. The day was pleasantly warm, a very pleasant change from the highly variable climactic conditions experienced over the season. Presentation Day started with the club’s 400m, 800m and 1500m time trials, which is a change of pace from the sprinting most have been practicing for All Juniors. This year, most of the juniors elected to do a 400m, and most of the senior squad swam 800m. They were all upstaged by the coach, who jumped in and promptly demolished the club’s Veterans 400m and 800m records. Only Olivia Arandt and Steph Goode were brave enough to swim the 1500m, and kept pace with each other the whole way, finishing less than 0.5 sec apart! After the time trials, the presentations of the trophies, championships and various awards were made, which are listed below. The efforts of the chefs were then demolished in rapid time by the by then very hungry swimmers and parents, with a delicious BBQ lunch provided. Following lunch, club photos were taken, although unfortunately not all swimmers could be present, and then followed the unrivalled highlight of the day – the big blow-up doll… to see Anthony Arandt and Tony Rodda try to get to the end was a sight to behold. Unfortunately, without a video of the events, the club has missed out on thousands of dollars worth of prizes from “ Funniest Home Videos ”, but the memory will live forever in the minds of those privileged to witness it.
