CHALLENGES THAT THE NATIONAL TREASURY HAS FACED • The Sector is mainly dominated by men • Attraction and retention of women at SMS level • 0% representation on women with Disabilities at SMS level Non Disabled 93 Female Disability Disabled 0
CHALLENGES THAT THE NATIONAL TREASURY HAS FACED • General lack of knowledge, understanding and drive of gender concepts and mainstreaming • Lack of dedicated Gender Focal Point and continuity pertaining to Gender Mainstreaming, resulting in lack of mainstreaming implementation, enforcement and monitoring
INTERVENTIONS TAKEN • An Executive Development Programme has been established in partnership with GIBS • A Gender Strategy for National Treasury is currently being developed • Established Mentorship Programme focusing on empowering Graduates • Accelerating the appointment of women in BEE initiatives and employment equity
FUTURE PLANS • Lobby political will to implement Gender Mainstreaming • Establish a dedicated Gender Focal Point • Hold managers accountable for their hiring practices
FUTURE PLANS • Ensure representation of women in all levels of the hierarchy of National Treasury, as well as active participants in decisions that affect them directly. • Strengthen relationships and collaborate with other Government Departments and Gender Institutions. • Compliance, as well as an effective monitoring and evaluation system with clear indicators for gender equality, needs to be put in place.
