Preschool Program Our Preschool program launches children into their academic careers. Children: Become active learners. Develop creative problem-solving skills. Score better on the Kindergarten Readiness Assessment and therefore are K INDERGARTEN R EADY . 4
Preschool Program We are the recipient of an expansion grant for the second consecutive year. This grant serves 15 preschool students (free) whose families meet poverty criteria. 5

All day instruction provided valuable time for teachers to: Teach more in-depth lessons. Help students master curriculum concepts. Build a stronger foundation for comprehension. Teach phonetic awareness and rhyming – important for fluency. Practice guided math and reading every day. 8

ACT Prep Course The ACT measures the knowledge content in the areas of English, Math, Reading, Science and Writing (optional). Therefore, the true measure of a student’s education is reflected in ACT scores. This test is a true nationwide measure of the college readiness of our students. Because of the high stakes nature of this one test, we decided to infuse an ACT course into the high school curriculum so every ery stude dent nt would have access to ACT preparation skills. Because of this preparation class and a positive attitude, a culture of excitement is emerging around ACT achievement! 12
Naviance: College and Career Readiness Naviance is a communication tool between guidance counselors, students, families and colleges for college and career planning. Naviance supports our parents and students by: Consolidating the college application process. Linking careers with colleges. Filtering a student’s college searches by cost, major, location, GPA and test scores. 13
Project-Based Learning Project-based learning throughout the district helps students explore real-world problems in an active, collaborative and thought-provoking learning process. 14

Marching Band Trip to China Our Winton Woods High School marching band traveled to China during Spring Break. Athletic GPA Our Winton Woods football scholar athletes have elected as a team to set higher academic standards by raising the fourth quarter Grade Point Average (GPA) eligibility requirement as follows: End of 1 st Semester 2014-15 2015-16 2016-17 1.50 0 – 1.75 1.75 5 – 2.00 2.00 “To support our academic goals, our team has decided to replace a workout with an extra study table per week. In addition, we will begin our school day an hour early to work with our teachers before school. Physical Education Waiver Beginning 2015-16, high school students will be eligible for a Physical Education waiver if they participate in interscholastic athletics, marching band, color guard or cheerleading for at least two full seasons by the end of their junior year . 33

Fly Fishing Winton Woods City Schools’ students in grades 5-8 were able to learn the fundamentals of fly fishing during a free, two-day fly fishing camp held July 13-14 at Parky’s Farm in Winton Woods Park. 36
