Developing local services • We want patients, their families & carers, our staff, our communities & partners to have more say in our future • We believe the best way of achieving this is by becoming a Foundation Trust. – More responsive to the needs of patients & communities; – More say for patients, local people and staff.
What does it mean to become a Foundation Trust? We will still be part of the NHS The way we make decisions will change; we will be more locally led and accountable We will have members and governors to represent local views Greater financial freedoms to invest in services
What will Foundation Trust mean for our patients? We will use our Foundation Trust status to work with our members and governors to develop services, for example: • Increasing support for our vulnerable patients; • Improving services for people with long term health conditions; • Improving access and availability of our services; • Helping people to prevent ill health and avoid unnecessary admissions to hospital; • Developing more joined up services together with key partners; • Investing in services and in our staff to deliver excellent care.
How can you get involved? Members are made up of public (patients and local people) and our staff Who can become a member? Public Staff • Open to anyone aged 14 and • Anyone employed by the Trust who is: On a contract of no fixed term or above • Must live in one of the areas a fixed term of at least 12 months; defined within the public OR Continuously employed under a constituency contract by the Trust for at least 12 months
How will our membership constituencies be organised? Public sub-constituencies Staff sub-constituencies • Ashton, Leigh & Wigan • Nurses and Midwives • Halton • Allied Health Professionals • St Helens • Clinical support staff • Warrington • Medical • Trafford • Dental • Community Dental • Non-clinical support staff • Rest of England
What is a governor? • Represent the interests of the local community & staff • Provide an active link between the Foundation Trust and communities; • Develop the role of members and support recruitment; • Be actively involved in forums and discussion groups about proposed changes to services • Sit on the Council of Governors • Governors also have specific statutory responsibilities

What are the benefits of membership for patients, staff and communities? • can vote to elect governors to Council of Governors; • receive information about the Trust e.g. newsletters; • invited to join discussion groups and surveys to give feedback on services & attend members events ; • can stand for election as a governor (if aged 16 years or above); • public members can join the online NHS staff discount scheme; • choose how involved you become – 3 levels of membership; Becoming a member is free .
Levels of membership for patients and staff? • Level 1 - receive information about the Trust, our services and invitations to members’ and Trust events • Level 2 - As per Level 1, plus invitations to participate in surveys and discussion groups about Trust services and future plans • Level 3 – As per Level 2, plus receive information about being a governor and invites to events for potential governors You can change your preference at any time
