Have license, registration and proof of insurance available. A traffic stop may not always be negative. An officer’s primary mission is driver’s safety and safety of motoring public. Have mutual respect. Want both parties to remain safe. Stop in safe well lighted area, or public place, if concerned. Use caution lights to safe area, but do not speed up. Follow all directions of the officer. Keep hands visible at all times. Put dome light on if at night. Driving is a privilege not a right. 3
Check for injuries. Call 911. Call your parents. Move vehicles from lanes of travel, if possible. Do not move if vehicle is disabled or there is serious injury. Have license, registration and proof of insurance ready. Start exchanging information between parties involved Before your drive, you should discuss the following with your parents: Location of the registration, and insurance card in the vehicle. Some allow to have proof of insurance on mobile device. 4

In Louisiana, a seat belt is required in all seating positions and must be worn properly. How do seat belts save lives? Know the 5 functions. Advocate for themselves Educate parents – teen may not answer if driving. Passenger may text for the driver Pull over in a well lighted area, if you need to text or call parent back Set up GPS before you move your vehicle Be aware of surroundings 10
