  3. Examinations • When do we start preparing our Year11 students for their exams?

  4. Dates • Parents evening – 23 rd October • HCSE Mock exams – 15 th November until 28 th November • HCSE certificate presentation – 14 th December • Parents evening – 17 th January • HCSE Mock exams – 11 th March until 15 th March (core subjects only in the hall) • Year 11 final reports home – Friday 5 th April • GCSE exams – begin in May and will run throughout June

  5. How are they organised? • This will depend on the exam. • Oral, practical, coursework, portfolio • External tests can be from 45 minutes to 2 hrs and 15 minutes • All have a minimum of 2 papers

  6. How can we help? • After school open surgery sessions in a variety of subjects • ICT rooms available before, after and during recreational time • Homework club • Sessions on during half terms • Seneca learning • Apps for certain subjects • Revision timetables

  10. Too much work makes… • Need that balance • Don’t abandon social life altogether • It’s ok to have breaks during revision • Forget about final examinations when they are finished • “Keep going”

  11. Chilling out! • Do they have evening jobs that may impact their work and sleep? • Do they give themselves time to chill out? • Praise and TLC • Stay positive

Practical tips • Know the examination timetable (HCSEs and GCSEs) • HCSE timetable available • Make sure they are in school in plenty of time before the exam! • Exam warm ups are on during the GCSE exam season • Help them with their revision timetable • They should have created one in their tutor groups. Ask them to share it with you • Test them – if they’ll let you! • Flash cards are a great way of quick testing • Bribery?! A possible treat at the end? • Prom related?
