Protecting the planet with a scrubber A vessel operating on HFO with a scrubber has a lower CO2 footprint than vessels operating on compliant fuels, because of the refining process needed to make low sulphur fuels. International Maritime Organization (IMO) IMO is the United Nations specialized agency with responsibility for the safety and security of shipping, and the prevention of marine and atmospheric pollution by ships. In October 2016, IMO voted on a global sulphur oxide limit. 1 st of January 2020, the new regulation took effect and a global sulphur cap at 0,5% applied in addition to the emission control areas where SOx emissions are not allowed to exceed 0,1%.

Do you want to be part of the solution? The Yara Marine Technologies scrubber can be installed as a singlet inlet system (one exhaust gas source), or multi inlet system with the scrubber replacing the ship’s silencer and providing an equivalent sound absorbing effect. Our scrubber can operate on multiple types of alkali in closed loop such as Magnesium Oxide, Caustic Soda or Sodium Carbonate.
