World Investor Week (WIW) Ring the Bell for Financial Literacy 30 September 2019 – 2 October 2019 https://www.worldinvestorweek.org/ https://www.world-exchanges.org/
About the WFE: • The WFE is the global industry group for exchanges and clearing houses (CCPs) around the world. • We represent over 250 market-infrastructure providers worldwide. • Of our members, 37% are in Asia-Pacific, 43% in EMEA and 20% in the Americas. • WFE exchanges are home to nearly 48,000 listed companies, and the market capitalisation of these entities is over $70.2 trillion; around $95 trillion (EOB) in trading annually passes through the infrastructures WFE members safeguard (at end 2018).
About the Ring the Bell for Financial Literacy initiative • This year, IOSCO and the WFE are working in partnership on a new initiative to support WIW called ‘Ring the Bell for Financial Literacy’. • WFE members have been invited to hold a bell ringing ceremony (opening or closing bell) during WIW 2019 to promote the importance of financial literacy, and to raise awareness of WIW 2019. • The outreach to WFE members is already underway, with positive responses already registered.
Support from the WFE • The WFE will issue a joint press release with IOSCO about the initiative before WIW 2019. The press release will include a list of all participating WFE members. • This initiative will be supported by social media activity on WFE’s LinkedIn and Twitter pages. • The WFE will include an article from José Alexandre C. Vasco, Investor Protection and Assistance Office, Director, Securities and Exchange Commission of Brazil (who leads IOSCO Committee 8, the committee that spearheads WIW) about WIW 2019 in the September issue of Focus, WFE’s monthly insight magazine. • This magazine will go live on Monday 30 September, the first day of WIW 2019. • The WFE will write a pre-event article in the September issue of Focus about the initiative. • The WFE will also write a post-WIW 2019 article in Focus (for the October issue), which will mention all participating WFE members, along with a carousal of event images.
Purpose and outcomes of the initiative • The initiative will encourage WFE members to promote and participate in WIW. • The bell ringing ceremonies will be opportunities for WFE members to promote the work they are doing in their own jurisdictions to improve financial education and literacy. • The events are also an opportunity to bring stakeholders together to celebrate the progress that has been made in your jurisdiction, e.g. financial literacy workshops or seminars.
