Intro Today we will go over: • What are WIETS and CDX • Different User Types for WIETS • CDX RegistraLon • Using WIETS
About WIETS and CDX WIETS is the United States Environmental ProtecLon Agency (EPA) Waste Import/ Export Tracking System responsible for managing hazardous waste noLce and reporLng data. EPA has extended use of WIETS by hazardous waste importers and exporters to include electronic submission and signature of hazardous waste noLces and annual reports. Exporters and importers shipping hazardous waste internaLonally should use WIETS to electronically submit noLces and reports to EPA. WIETS is not used for tracking of internal domesLc shipments. CDX is the point of entry on the Environmental InformaLon Exchange Network (Exchange Network) for environmental data submissions to the Agency. Its use is supported by the Cross-Media Electronic ReporLng Rule (CROMERR) which provides the legal framework for electronic reporLng under all of EPA's environmental regulaLons.
Different Types of Users • No8ce Preparers – Preparers are hazardous waste industry representaLves that can enter noLce and report data into WIETS but do not have the legal authority to sign or submit noLces and reports to EPA. Preparers must be sponsored by a US hazardous waste industry representaLve with legal authority to sign the noLces and reports and must assign a cerLfier to each noLce/report for signature and submission to EPA. • No8ce Cer8fiers – CerLfiers are US hazardous waste industry representaLves that legally sign off on the hazardous waste noLce submissions. Along with being able to enter noLce data, cerLfiers can provide electronic signatures for noLces and reports and submit them to EPA.
