GENERAL INFORMATION • Homeroom = 8 minutes • Class period = 59 minutes • Students take 8 courses and have a lunch • Passing time between periods= 4 minutes • Lunch= 30 minutes (3 lunch periods) • Ability to accommodate shared timed vocational students
ADVANTAGES AND EDUCATIONAL BENEFITS • Additional instructional time per class meeting • To complete lessons/projects/labs in one session • For student-centered and cooperative learning opportunities • To provide differentiated instruction • Students have an opportunity to take 8 classes (40 credits a year) • Students have a maximum of 6 classes per day so that they can focus on fewer each day
ADVANTAGES CONTINUED… • Homeroom added • PE no longer tied to science lab schedule, except in AP • Fine & Performing Arts can complete projects, work, performance practices in a class period • Less detrimental if a student is absent due to illness • Students will not miss the same class if they leave for athletics, field trips, or co-curricular initiatives • Classes meet at different times in the day (Don’t have PE 1 st period!)
