  4. USDA Strategic Goals FY18-22 1. Ensure USDA programs are delivered efficiently, effectively, and with integrity and a focus on customer service. 2. Maximize the ability of American agricultural producers to prosper by feeding and clothing the world. 3. Promote American agricultural products and exports.

  15. Status of Farm Bill • Current Farm Bill expires Sept. 30, 2018 • House and Senate Committees held hearings and listening sessions on new farm bill • In January 2018, Secretary Purdue announced USDA’s Farm Bill and Legislative Principles

  16. 2018 Farm Bill Research, Education & Economics Legislative Priorities: • Commit to a public research agenda that places the US at the forefront of food and agriculture scientific development. • Develop an impact evaluation approach, including the use of industry panels, to align research priorities to invest in high priority innovation, technology, and education networks.

  17. 2018 Farm Bill Research, Education & Economics Legislative Priorities (continued): • Empower public-private partnerships to leverage federal dollars, increase capacity, and investments in infrastructure for modern food and agricultural science. • Prioritize investments in education, training and the development of human capital to ensure a workforce capable of meeting the growing demands of food and agriculture science. • Develop and apply integrated advancement in technology needed to feed a growing and hungry world.

  19. What has NOT changed for NIFA applicants • Applicants apply through Grants.gov • Grantees utilize Treasury’s ASAP system to draw funds (location code 01) • Capacity reporting remains the same in REEport and in POW • Competitive awards will not be managed in ezFedGrants until a later date 19
