WOHS World Languages Facts ● Minimum 2 years of a World Language is recommended ● Competitive colleges require 3 years ● ACTFL standards based curriculum (American Council of the Teaching of Foreign Languages) ● Assessments include 3 modes of communication ● Proficiency assessment at the end of grade 8 gives students the opportunity to move to level 2 at WOHS

Moving on from Eighth Grade World Languages ● Which language to choose? ● Encourage your child to choose the language that most interests them. ● This will facilitate high engagement and success! ● Or, if your child speaks a second language he/she can expand his/her skills. ● Differentiated instruction is provided for all learners in every language.

  15. 9 th Grade Optio ns ● Start level one of any language ● Continue level 2 in a language begun in 8 th grade ● Heritage screening for Native Spanish speakers takes place in 8 th grade. ● Heritage screening for Native French speakers takes place in 8 th grade. ● Screening continues in 9 th grade for new students. ● Class levels are based on students’ grades, proficiency level and teacher recommendations.
