Indigenous Health – Truth and Reconciliation Commission Health-Related Recommendations • Seven in 10 Canadians are concerned about the health disparities of Indigenous populations • 89% support governments working with First Nations leaders in establishing clear goals and targets in reducing health disparities. • 78% are optimistic that if Canadian governments make improving Indigenous health a priority Indigenous Canadians can have the same health status as other Canadians. • 82% believe that the health concerns faced by Indigenous patients will not be solved unless a new approach is used by the federal and provincial governments in delivering health care services.
Public Reporting of the 15 Never Events • 2 of 3 Canadians (3 of 4 informal caregivers) worry about “preventable events” • 93% support mandatory reporting of never events • 90% think hospitals need to have the same type of regulatory bodies as airlines to ensure public safety • 59% worry preventable events would happen to them if they were hospitalized.

Adopt key recommendations from the Report of the Advisory Panel on Healthcare Innovation (Naylor Report) Resolved, that the federal government adopt the recommendations in the Report of the Advisory Panel on Healthcare Innovation related to the creation of a Healthcare Innovation Fund, supported by appropriate funding, starting with $1 billion over 5 years, as part of the next Health Accord.
Indigenous Health – Truth and Reconciliation Commission Health-Related Recommendations Resolved, that health care leaders commit to addressing widening health inequities and quality of care for First Nations, Métis and Inuit patients by working to implement the Calls to Action for health from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, beginning with recommendation 19 to, “…establish measurable goals to identify and close the gaps in health outcomes…to publish annual progress reports and assess long- term trends…” and establish a co - ordinated Action Plan for the other recommendations, in partnership with Indigenous Peoples, in the next three years.
Public Reporting of the 15 Never Events Resolved, that provincial/territorial governments across Canada commit to patient safety by requiring mandatory public reporting of the 15 Never Events for Hospital Care in Canada within the next three years.
