Burnaby youth connect at ‐ risk population with cellphones “I think a lot of us take them for granted”
LINC students help the people of Fort McMurray Carolyn Moi was sad. She watched the news. In May, a huge wildfire burned Fort McMurray. People lost their homes. Carolyn had an idea Carolyn is a teacher for the Burnaby School District. She teaches an adult LINC 1 class. Carolyn’s class wanted to help the people from Fort McMurray.At the same time, the class was learning about Canada’s money. The LINC 1 class wanted to help people from Fort McMurray and learn more about Canadian money. Carolyn’s LINC 1 students made a video to ask other Burnaby School District LINC classes to donate coins to help the people in Fort McMurray. Over the next week, LINC students donated money. Everybody was generous. The students in the LINC 1 class collected $740.16 The LINC 1 class sent a cheque to the Canadian Red Cross for $740.16. Everyone was proud and happy to give money to help people in Canada.

Last year the School District’s International Program was one of five high school programs worldwide shortlisted. And this year they were the ST Star High School Award winners .
