Opportunities for College Credit Advanced Placement — AP Dual Credit Courses Students enroll in courses Advance College Project- to prepare for exams -ACP: credit offered through IU-Bloomington Students are expected to and transfer to most take the subject AP other colleges exams in May Comp 101 for seniors: Credit awarded based on credit offered through test score (usually 3 or Vincennes U. higher required) IB courses/exams – offer credit in a way similar to AP
FLASH ALERT!!!!!!!!!!!! The state of Indiana has mandated that dual- credit courses offered will have a reduced tuition cost of $25 per credit. IU credit rate for Spring 2014 is $278.67/ credit . That’s a cost of $836.01 for 3 credits AMAZING SAVINGS!!!!!!!! REGISTRATION with IU is required to purchase credits

Scheduling Procedures Counselors meet with Class of 2015 through Eng classes week of Jan 21st Students request classes and enter requests into Skyward account — access through February 14 th 7 classes per semester* (14 credits total) Parents can go online to check courses using STUDENT “webgrades” login Juniors will have individual conferences with their counselors (starting mid-February) * may be fewer if applying for a McKenzie Career program

Future Plans. . . Standardized Testing: College bound students are encouraged to take the SAT or the ACT in the spring of junior year . Many students elect to take the test again in the fall (October or December) of their senior year. Choosing a COLLEGE Three college visits are allowed each year Visiting prospective schools is often the best way to get a feel for the school’s atmosphere and culture. College representatives visit throughout the year — NAVIANCE, especially FALL. On-Campus College Preview days College Fairs held locally each year – NE INDY FAIR--THURS, MARCH 13 at LN
College Athletics. . . NCAA Eligibility Center Interested in participating in college athletics? SCHOLARSHIPS Mostly seniors – some for 10 th & 11 th graders & younger 21 st Century Scholars- Affirmation Automatic — ACT/SAT scores, GPA — specific to college Merit-based – depends primarily on grades and SAT or ACT scores. Talent-based – athletics, music, other special skill Need-based — dependent on family financial situation Independent scholarships – open to everyone Volunteer/Community Service May require an ESSAY May be based on FINANCIAL NEED Many for those who have OVERCOME OBSTACLES
