  8. POLICY PROCESS COMPLETION Following the final public forum, the attendance zone committee shall develop a final recommendation to present to the Board. Following study and discussion of the attendance zone committee recommendations and consideration of any recommendations from the Superintendent, the Board shall take appropriate action with respect to the establishment of school attendance boundaries.   10. PURPOSE OF ATTENDANCE ZONES 1. Maintain the neighborhood school concept; 2. Prevent, reduce, and eliminate overcrowding; 3. Allow for future growth; 4. Keep distances traveled by students as short as possible; 5. Minimize the need for student transportation; and 6. Allow campuses to house students safely and provide adequate services to all students Hays CISD

  11. DECISION PRINCIPLES FOR CHANGES 1. Work toward common feeder patterns throughout the District. 2. Attempt to assign entire neighborhoods to the same school(s). 3. Consider students’ proximity to campuses and promote safe and reasonable walking zones to encourage healthier students. 4. Utilize projected student enrollment and capacity as principle measures of determining efficient use of educational facilities.  School attendance areas shall be kept as stable as possible.  …the best interests of all students in the District shall take precedence over the convenience or interest of students in any one school.   18. CHANGES: Large part of Chapa is rezoned to Wallace and Simon to allow for LHS to sit in its own zone. Green Pastures is rezoned from Simon to Chapa. Hometown Kyle, Silverado, Spring Branch rezoned from Wallace to Barton to allow for lower population at Simon and LHS.

  20. • For the purposes of this exercise, all maps are on the table. • Vote for the map you like best. • Votes for individual maps will be tallied to determine the prevailing concept. Example: votes for maps 2, 3 and 5, will be added together to determine the total vote for the PIE concept.
