Welcome Back To
Why have schools been closed? • You can only catch Coronavirus if you have been close to a person who already has the germs in their body. • To stop the virus spreading from person to person, schools and shops were closed, adults were asked to work from home if they could and families were instructed to stay at home during ‘lockdown’. • It’s been hard for everyone and sadly, many people have died. • However, hundreds thousands more people who caught the virus and were poorly have recovered. Many more people have remained fit and well. • Shops are now beginning to open again, and the government say it’s safe for you to be back at school. However, we’ve got to do things a bit differently over the next few weeks …
What you can do to help – Social Distancing • You can help stop the spread of germs by not getting too close to other people – this is called ‘Social Distancing’. • You need to try your best to stay 2 metres away from your friends and the adults in school. This is going to be very hard but if we use our helicopter arms as a guide, we should be ok! (Have a go! Put both of your arms out to the side and twizzle! Simples).
What you can do to help – Social Distancing • To help you to ‘Socially Distance’, we have created smaller class groups. You are all in your own little ‘pod’ (or ‘bubble’) labelled A, B or C. You won’t be able to mix with children from the other groups whilst you are in school and you will only be able to play with the children in your own Play Zone. • You will have the same adults looking after you every day.
Social Distancing • We have also set out the tables so that they are spread out more and ask that you keep apart in corridors or pathways by following the arrows.
Social Distancing • We’ve made a one way system around school for drop off and pick up times. Make sure you remember which way to come in (by the driveway), and IN which way to leave (via the KS1 gate). OUT FOLLOW THE PATHWAY TO KS1
Social Distancing • We are asking you to say goodbye to your parent/carer in the morning in one of our Hug and Go Zones as we can’t allow adults other than staff onto the playground. At home-time, they will be waiting for you in the same place.
Social Distancing • Please also only get to school for your particular time slot – Y6, no getting to school early please and standing on the playground by yourself! Don’t chat in a group on the playground, go to a yellow marker and line up in a queue formation. Y6 – you must not walk home with a group of friends please. YELLOW MARKER
Social Distancing • Dinner times are going to look very different as you will be having a classroom picnic everyday! Each group has their own lunchbox trolley. You will eat your packed lunch at your desk. When everyone has finished eating, you’ll go outside to play. • Only one person can be in a toilet block at a time and you must only use the toilets with your year or group name on them. Check the signs on the doors to see if the toilet is in use – if it is, wait outside the door please until it’s free.
What you can do to help – Hygiene • You can help stop the spread of germs by regularly washing your hands with soap and water. If you can’t use soap, you can use hand sanitiser. • Wash your hands for at least 20 seconds, making sure you wash between your fingers and all over your hands. • You should wash your hands: as soon as you get to school, after break/lunchtime and sports activities; before cooking and eating; before leaving home; after using the toilet. • If you cough – cover your mouth then wash your hands. If you sneeze, catch it in a tissue, put the tissue in a lidded bin (white with a green lid), then wash your hands. • Try not to touch your mouth, eyes and nose with unwashed hands.
• You must not bring anything into school apart from a water bottle and your lunchbox. However, we will ask you to bring in a hat/cap or sunscreen if the weather is especially hot. These items must be put into a plastic bag and will remain in school. • Please don’t share items such as water bottles, pens and pencils etc. You will have your own equipment wallet. • You mustn’t put reading books that you use in school back on the shelf – there are special boxes for you to return them to. Reading books won’t go home. You won’t be able to use a lot of equipment now, or play with different toys everyday but we’ll still make learning fun!
• If you feel unwell at school you must tell an adult so that we can take care of you in the Rocket Room. We especially need to know if you have the following symptoms: - temperature/fever - persistent cough/sore throat - loss of taste or smell • If you have a cough, cold, sore throat or sickness bug then please don’t come into school.
What you can do to help – additional new rules You should: • follow any altered routines for arrival or departure • follow school instructions on hygiene, such as handwashing • follow instructions on which pupils you can socialise with at school • move around the school as per instructions (e.g. one-way systems, queuing) • understand the expectations about sneezing, coughing, tissues and disposal (‘catch it, bin it, kill it’) • tell an adult if you feel unwell (especially if you have a temperature or cough) • follow the rules about not sharing equipment or other items • follow the expectations about breaks or play times, including where you may or may not play • follow the ‘one person at a time rule’ for the use of toilets • not cough or spit at or towards any other person
What you can do to help – Fire Evacuation & Lockdown • Lockdown procedures in school (where you get to be a ‘Silent Ninja’) are staying the same for you. The adults in school know exactly what to do and they will keep you safe. • The Fire Drill may be different for some of you, as you are in different classrooms now. The adults will go through what you need to do, where you will line up and you’ll have a practice on your first day back in school, remembering to leave the building calmly and silently.
You need to know that you are all very safe and that you don’t have to feel afraid.
