MPI Bingo – Who Are You?
Delivering Educational Programs Our Members Want To Experience
Why Are You Here? My chapter’s education program currently is __________________________. My vision for our education program this year is ___________________. I want to learn ___________ at Chapter Business Summit.
Roadmap for Our Discussion Today Data & Analysis Post-Event Content & Evaluation Speakers Marketing & Venues & Communication Vendors
Why do we provide education to our members? Member Value Engagement ROI Financial Advancement
Data and Analysis is Key – “I Data!” Know who you are educating and what they want: • Work with the membership division to determine areas of greatest need based on retention issues and feedback received during renewal outreach • Use chapter demographic reports to know who your members are; consider investment in a member database • Needs assessment and surveys specific to education • MPI Global satisfaction survey feedback • Member-specific focus groups , e.g. senior planners, millennials • What else?
Industry Profile Budget Control by Planners Location Designations Budget Control by Senior Planners
Content & Speakers • Develop a strategic, yet flexible , education plan for the next 18 months using feedback received from ALL of your members • Consider delivering different types of experiences – panel discussions, workshops, keynotes, member roundtables – focus on effective methods of adult learning • Determine education strategy for supplier and planner members • Speakers are not “one size fits all” • Create an in-kind sponsorship strategy for speakers • Ensure CEU credits can be awarded from the CIC • MPI Speaker Resource …want to know more about it? • What else?
MPI Speaker Resource • Online speaker database representing 8,000+ speakers • Search to find MPI “Verified” Speakers • NEW – Search speakers by CMP domain • Allows you to create a “shopping cart” • Two ways to log-on (1) MPI Web home page (2) CLRP ** Insider Tip: Always ask and negotiate speaker fees!**
Venues and Vendors • Everything is for $ALE! Just like member recruitment and retention is everyone’s job, so is identifying sponsorship opportunities • Partner with the finance division in development of the sponsorship prospectus to ensure sponsor benefit to education • Identify in-kind sponsors for AV, venues, décor, graphic design, floral, photographer, printer • Ensure the onsite experience is top tier – ensure participants feel welcome, alternative room sets, food, invest in good AV, tighten up the script, etc. • What else?
Education Marketing & Communication • Partner with the communications division to ensure there is a consistent theme and message being conveyed in a timely manner to your members and non-members • Ask your VP Communications about the marketing calendar template • Tie back all aspects of your events into other areas of the board – no one operates in a vacuum • Link your event content for the year through print and/or newsletters/e-communications • What else?
Post-Event Evaluation • Determine session evaluation goals and be consistent across the year – 4-point scale/5-point scale • Use session and survey data – What are you doing with that information? How are you using it to inform future sessions? • At board meetings lead an agenda item to discuss the successes and learning opportunities following each education session • How did you do in educating UP, not down ? • What else?
Managing Your Education Budget (low or no cost) • Know the value of your events – member buying power, data on participation, chapter developed “Buy MPI” program • Cash sponsorship to underwrite education • Partnerships with other associations • Grab and go’s or other informal experiences • Create ways to serve niche communities within your chapter • MPI Global Foundation Chapter Grants • Take advantage of MPI’s Chapter Connect Program
Tip the Scales and Take a Risk! “If it isn’t “Fix it broken…” anyway!”
BREAK TIME (and NETWORK!!)
