VC PRESENTATION TO THE GENERAL GATHERING OF WEDNESDAY 25 TH SEPTEMBER 2019 Motivations of the presentation 1. INES has reached a very pleasant position (programs, performance, projects, network and discipline). 2. Last year’s academic performance was not sound for all (retakes and repeats). 3. Some disciplinary cases and immoral behaviors stained the year’s success story. Nr Item Comments 1 Welcome back 1. To welcome old students and wish them to learn from the experience in order to increase performance; 2. To welcome new students by thanking them for their choice and remind them to use the opportunity to sharpen their dream 2 Academic 1. Master and respect academic policies and regulations; performance 2. Participate fully to both classes and practice; 3. Do it yourself (Avoid Kudodesha dissertations and assignments); 4. Do not get discouraged because of failure; 5. Work in groups where needed. 6. Communicate on time with HoD and Dean for guidance; 7. Tolerance zero before poor delivery by lecturers; 8. Link with lecturers or TA outside class time for support; 9. Know programs profile (entry and exit profile and strive to fit in); 10. Take initiative to link up with industry; 11. Sharpen intellectual curiosity; 12. Know yourself (strength and weaknesses) and work accordingly; 13. Improve your communication skills (speaking, listening, writing, and reading. The language center and language club are there for that);
14. Maximize the use of teaching and learning facilities and go beyond offered material (library, internet, laboratories, BIC, etc.) 15. Study for lifelong learning. (Internet has made it easy. Ex. Edx platform). 3 Discipline and 1. Discipline is the key to success; morality 2. Self-management (avoid attitude of Rukurikirizindi); 3. Management of time and priorities; 4. Politeness, gentleness and kindness (kuba Imana y ’ i Rwanda); 5. Management of resources (institutional and personal); 6. Respect of other people’s life and property (no to violence, no to abusive language, no to bulling, no to discrimination, no to harassment, etc.) ; 7. Avoid involvement in criminal cases (drugs, theft, cheating, child abuse, illegal trafficking, prostitution, armed groups, terrorism, etc). 8. Tolerance zero before indiscipline of INES staff (alcohol/ drug abuse, sexual harassment, examination leakage, unfairness, absence, delays, power abuse, etc). 9. Use suggestion box as alternative channel of communication. 4 Community life 1. No man is an island (I am because you are); 2. Create friendship (University companions are key for life beyond graduation); 3. Open your comfortable circles if you want to learn and grow; 4. Treat others as companions/ comrades (they deserve respect); 5. Develop empathy and solidarity (no indifference to other’s joy or sorrow); 6. Avoid derogatory statements about students and staff; 7. Create come together opportunities;
8. Promote constructive competitions; 9. Strive for protection of the name of your institution; 5 Oneness with INES- 1. INES is part of you, you are part of INES (INES part of your CV); Ruhengeri 2. Any fall of INES is your fall; the rise of INES is your rise; 3. Protect your institution by all good means; 4. Make INES shine through your performance and behavior; 5. Denounce on time whatever may endanger your institution; 6. Share information (good or bad) within INES (Management) before it is spread outside; 7. Market your university; 8. Be the change you want to see at INES. 6 INES SU and other 1. Opportunity for leadership skills development; groups 2. Promotion of the best profile of the members; 3. Promotion of togetherness of the community. (If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together). 4. Promotion of interaction and engagement within and outside; 5. Advocacy of INES ambitions and achievements (Are you informed?); 6. Welcome and integration of people from outside; 7. Representatives deserve respect ; 8. Choose representatives based on INES policy; 9. Promote dynamism through events (no cold week-end); 10. Communicate your plans and seek advice where needed; 11. Develop mechanisms for conflicts management and resolution; 12. Give chance to the development of personal talents.
13. Get connected to policies and developmental strategies. 14. Participate to different activities that are organized (conferences, competitions, community services, memorial services, spiritual services, campaigns, etc.) 7 Life skills 1.
