About Durres The city was founded as Epidamno in the ancient region of Illyria in 6 BC. The total population is 175,110 (2011 census), in a total area of 338.30 km 2 . It is the largest port of Albania.

University “Aleksandër Moisiu” of DURRES (UAMD) University "Aleksandër Moisiu" Durres is a public institution of higher education established by the Decision of the Council of Ministers of the Repub of Albania, no. 801, dated 20.12.2005 "On the opening of the University" Alexander Moisiu "in Durres". With the opening of "Aleksandër Moisiu" University, the Albanian Government did not intend to open just a new institution in the countr but to open a different institution that would bring the best Western academic experiences. The activity of the University of Durres is based on th centred student approach, meaning that everything that happens in the university since the teaching and learning process, research , services, and activities are available exclusively to the student.

UD is the second largest university in Albania, which has 18.000 students and 550 lecturers.
