Our History • 1846--leading citizens—primarily physicians and lawyers—proposed that an institution of higher learning be established, which led to the founding of the private, nonsectarian University of Buffalo. • Medical classes began February 24, 1847, with an enrollment of 66 students. Our Story S chool’ s first location was next to Buffalo General Hospital in downtown Buffalo. 1893- S chool relocated to High S treet, where it remained until 1953, when it moved to the S outh Campus. 1962- University of Buffalo merged with the S tate University of New York. 1987- S chool’ s name changed to the S chool of Medicine and Biomedical S ciences. 2015- S chool’ s named changed to Jacobs S chool of Medicine and Biomedical S ciences.
