Perinatal MH is an example of this • NHS England launched opportunity to apply for national funding to develop specialist perinatal mental health services on 19th Aug Applications by 16 th Sep 2016 ie. 19 working days! • • Cheshire & Merseyside 5YFV bid was successful – awarded £3.3m on 25 th Oct • Teams recruited and offering clinical sessions from mid April 2017 ie. 6 months from funding award to clinical delivery Cheshire & Merseyside 5YFV Cheshire & Merseyside STP

How did we start? • NW Coast Perinatal Network in place since 2014 • Scoping document outlining perinatal MH baseline position already drafted • 3 Cheshire and Merseyside NHS MH providers already working collaboratively to develop MH chapter of STP • Brought clinicians together from each Trust to define pathways Cheshire & Merseyside 5YFV Cheshire & Merseyside STP

What did we do? • Identified clinical lead and support enabling successful bid and project management • Ensured strong commitment from strategic staff in each MH Trust • Ensured good communication between all system partners • Worked with people with ‘Lived Experience’ • Drafted bid for one service - 3 MH teams to cover C&M geography (10 CCGs) Cheshire & Merseyside 5YFV Cheshire & Merseyside STP

  7. What did we achieve? • National funding award of £3.3m to develop a new community specialist perinatal service for C&M • Developed service identity and recruited staff in conjunction with people with lived experience • Momentum to deliver significant service improvement and improved outcomes for women and their families • Earlier diagnosis and intervention - women are supported to recover and fewer women and their infants suffer avoidable harm Cheshire & Merseyside 5YFV Cheshire & Merseyside STP

Next steps  All staff in post by end June 2017  Psychiatrists to continue to provide and record clinical activity  Establishment of Primary Mental Health CPD Group to include colleagues in North Wales  Local launch events for the service (June) Cheshire & Merseyside 5YFV Cheshire & Merseyside STP
