  16. SPECIALIST STUDIES The Specialist Studies (Opinion) were carried out to: • Provide information regarding the baseline environmental conditions; • Identify anticipated impacts on the receiving environment; • Develop mitigation measures for each anticipated environmental impact. 16

  17. BIODIVERSITY ASSESSMENT 17

  18. BIODIVERSITY SPECIALIST FINDINGS • The site is highly degraded & fragmented with low ecological integrity and functioning; • On-site flora dominated by secondary grassland with an abundance of alien weeds occurring in degraded areas; • No important flora and fauna habitat on site; • No species of conservation importance were recorded on site; and • It is highly unlikely that any species of conservation concern ( i.e. red list/protected species) are present. • No additional ecological assessment on proposed site are required 18

  19. WETLAND ASSESSMENT 19

  20. WETLAND SPECIALIST FINDINGS • There is an impoundment within the close proximity of the site, occurring at the western side of Kagiso Drive; • The site survey confirmed that he impoundment is a storage pond that forms part of the nearby wastewater treatment works infrastructures; • Therefore, it is not considered a natural surface water ecosystem nor wetland habitat; and • No additional wetland ecological &/or wetland delineation survey on proposed site is required as part of EA process for this EA process. 20

  21. HERITAGE RESOURCES 1954 1989 21

  22. HERITAGE SPECIALIST FINDINGS • The site is heavily degraded due to dumping, use by vehicles and pedestrian traffic; • The building on site is not older than 60 years (referenced in previous slide); • Therefore, the building on site has no heritage significance; • No historic, Iron Age or Stone Age heritage sites were noted on site during the site visit on 24 June 2016; • No further heritage impact assessment of the study area is required; and 22

  23. HERITAGE SPECIALIST FINDINGS • In the unlikely event of any unmarked human burials etc. being uncovered during earthworks, these must be reported immediately to SAHRA (Andrew Salomon – 021 362 2535) 23
