Information You Will Find in this Presentation • District Cleaning Procedure • Response from Bus Company • Nurse Protocols • Hygiene Tips • Health Information • Maintaining Instruction • Resources The Comsewogue School District is taking direction from the Suffolk County Department of Health and the New York State Department of Education. We are continuing heightened cleaning procedures and enhanced hygiene protocols.
District Cleaning Response • Custodial Staff • The Custodial Staff wipes down communal areas including door handles, desks, sinks, water fountains, staircase railways, other hard surfaces • Overtime provided for cleaning purposes • Higher levels of disinfectant available in all buildings • Use of Hospital Grade Disinfectants
Bus Company (Suffolk Transportation) Response • “We will be disinfecting all vehicles in the fleet. All drivers will be provided with disinfectant spray bottle to be utilized on high contact areas: boarding handrails, seat tops, seat backs, driver compartment.” • “Hand sanitizing stations are being installed this week within our maintenance facilities and all driver rooms.”
Nurse Protocols • The following steps will be taken for any student who presents with fever, cough, shortness or breath or difficulty breathing: isolate student behind a curtain and provide tissues and a garbage can for coughing and/or face mask if it is chronic • • take temperature • use a pulse ox to check on oxygen levels • listen to their lungs with a stethoscope • The following questions will be asked: • Did you have a fever at home? If so, when did it start and when was the last one? • Did you take any medication today (such as ADVIL, MOTRIN, IBUPROFEN, TYLENOL, ALEVE)? • Nurse will call and ask each parent/guardian about fever and medication Any students the nurse is concerned with will be sent home and it will be recommended they be seen by a doctor •
Proper Hygiene Tips for Students/Staff • Engage in age-appropriate discussions about the topic • Do not want to spread fear/cause panic • Wash hands for 20 seconds (sing Happy Birthday twice) • Keep hands off face • Sneeze into tissue, if available or crook of arm - elbow • Encourage elbow bumps instead of high five or fist pounds • Wipe down classroom keyboard with wipes • Disinfect communal surfaces
Important Health Information • Maintain personal space • Students/Staff should remain home if sick • Should be fever free for 24 hours before returning to school without the use of fever reducer such as Tylenol/Advil • Masks are for sick people to stop them from spreading disease • Leave masks for the sick and health care professionals • Contact School Nurse/Main Office if your child is showing signs of fever, coughing, and/or difficulty breathing • Contact Main Office if child/family is traveling or has traveled abroad (no need to let us know if you traveled over February break - the Department of Health has cleared the amount of time)
Maintain Instruction • Preparing lessons in case school is closed • 6-12 students Virtual Learning through Google Classroom • All K-5 receive hard copy of multiple days worth work • Start developing packets for Regents/Final Review
