GOOD FRIDAY SERVICE Tre Ore Service This Good Friday, our congregation is collaborating with other congregations in the Los Angeles area to make available an online T re Ore Service. A T re Ore Service is based on the three hours of agony that Jesus experienced on the cross. Each congregation is contributing a brief service and meditation based on one of the seven words spoken from the cross by our Lord. Y ou may view the entire service on our website, Facebook page, and Y ouTube page starting at 12 PM on Good Friday.
TRE ORE SERVICE | CRISTO REY LUTHERAN CHURCH The Sixth W ord “It Is Finished!”
OPENING PRAYER O God in heaven, according to your will in Jesus Christ, all is finished for our salvation. May our lives be filled with deeds of gratitude according to your holy will, and not following our own understanding; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
PSALM 130 Out of the depths I cry to Y ou, O Lord; O Lord, hear my voice. Let Y our ears be attentive to my cry for mercy. If Y ou, O Lord, kept a record of sins, O Lord, who could stand?
PSALM 130 But with Y ou there is forgiveness; Therefore Y ou are feared. I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, And in His Word I put my hope. My soul waits for the Lord more than watchmen wait for the morning, More than watchmen wait for the morning.
PSALM 130 Israel, put your hope in the Lord, For with the Lord is unfailing love and with Him is full redemption. He Himself will redeem Israel From all their sins.
PSALM 130 Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit; As it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen.
SCRIPTURE READING John 19:30 When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, “It is finished,” and he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.
CLOSING PRAYER Lord Jesus Christ, give us your strength as you resolved to do your Father’s work and finish it. What profound peace it gives to know that all has been accomplished for our salvation. Y our word from the cross seals the enormous payment you made for our sin. “It is finished!” Amen.
BLESSING To him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you before his glorious presence without fault and with great joy — to the only God our Savior be glory, majesty, power and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages, now and forevermore! Amen.
O SACRED HEAD, NOW WOUNDED O sacred head, now wounded, With grief and shame weighed down, Now scornfully surrounded With thorns, your only crown. O sacred head, what glory And bliss did once combine; Though now despised and gory, I joy to call you mine!
O SACRED HEAD, NOW WOUNDED All this for my transgression, My wayward soul to win; This torment of your Passion, To set me free from sin. I cast myself before you, Y our wrath my rightful lot; Have mercy, I implore you, O Lord, condemn me not!
O SACRED HEAD, NOW WOUNDED Lord, by my consolation, My constant source of cheer; Remind me of your Passion, My shield when death is near. I look in faith, believing That you have died for me; Y our cross and crown receiving, I live eternally.
