Town Branch Commons
Town Branch History • Lexington is situated on the Town Branch of the Elkhorn Creek, and was essential to the creation of Lexington as we have come to know it today. • Dating back to the city’s founding, the waterway played a key role as a center of commerce and cultural activity. • Lexington’s original town plan in 1790 notes “the Commons” on Water Street. The Town Branch Creek ran through the Commons, and this linear space was the center of activity for the city.
