  8. Walkers and Drivers ➢ Students are dropped off and picked up in the front of school starting at 8:15. (School staff will be present) ➢ Parents please be aware of the drop-off and pick-up procedures. There is a handout in the packet.

  10. • Busing is provided for full day students to and from school. • There is a fee for busing. • A Save My Seat form will be sent to you. • Students are escorted by staff on and off the bus. • It is the parent’s responsibility to make sure an adult is at the bus stop.

  12. Getting Ready for Kindergarten READ, READ, READ WITH YOUR CHILD!!! Research has shown that reading books aloud is the single most valuable support parents can provide in helping their child learn to read.

Things to Do to Get Ready for School ☑ Preschool ☑ Play strategy games with your child. ☑ Get your child a library card and go regularly. ☑ Encourage your child to talk and communicate in writing. (pictures and scribbles are a great start) ☑ Practice cutting with scissors. ☑ Practice: Writing child’s full name with a capital letter and lower case, address, phone number and basic math. ☑ Drive by the school and play on the playground. ☑ READ, READ, READ!!! ☑ See handouts in packet for other tips.

The PTA: • Meetings are normally the 4 th Monday of the Month at 7:00 pm at Westview • Sponsors field trips, assemblies, science fair, family reading night, and much more • Raise money to help purchase playground balls, computer equipment, books for our library and more • Works together with the staff to provide a safe environment for our children • You get to meet fellow parents and your student’s friends

  17. Home Language Survey If you answered YES to one of the questions, Illinois school code may require the school to assess your child’s English language proficiency. At registration you will schedule a time in April for your child to complete the assessment at Holmes.

  18. Health Information When entering Kindergarten the following is required: ▪ A Physical Examination ▪ A Vision Examination ▪ A Dental Examination ▪ Immunization Records If your child needs to take any type of medication in school, a medication authorization form is required. Medications cannot be given without it. Please keep the office up to date with medication, allergies, emergency contacts, phone numbers, etc.
