The Well-Formed Christian Leader from Nancy ’ s Perspective Foundations For Leadership Fall 2008 Prof. Kaak
Me, Myself, and Jesus “ Leadership is not so much about technique and methods as it is about opening the heart. Leadership is about inspiration—of oneself and of others. Great leadership is about human experiences, not processes. Leadership is not a formula or a program, it is a human activity that comes from the heart and considers the hearts of others. It is an attitude, not a routine. ” - Lance Secretan, Industry Week, 10/12/9 “ It takes less time to do a thing right than to explain why you did it wrong. ” — Henry Wadsworth Longfellow "You cannot be a leader, and ask other people to follow you, unless you know how to follow, too. ” — Sam Rayburn
Vision "The first responsibility of a leader is to define reality. The last is to say thank you. In between, the leader is a servant. ” — Max DePree Servant Leadership The Relational Leadership Model Purposeful Inclusive Empowering Ethical Process-oriented
Intention To lead myself into better habits, reactions, and attitudes To lead others to Christ by example To become a business executive with integrity
Means Following instinct for good intentions Action over Procrastination Patience, education, relation Setting goals and accomplishing tasks Solitude over loneliness
Salt and Light Salt = to impact, improve, effect, and influence Light = purpose, an example, representation, responsibility, talent/strengths ( “ this is my light, what light do you shine? ” ), Christ within you, identity, personality
Challenge I challenge you to be a highly effective person. Live a life of example. Be the leader you would want to follow. Strive for humility. Use your strengths. Embrace your weaknesses. Accept change. Accept that you cannot do everything. Above all, keep God first.
