  2. Day 1 • Arrived to the beautiful and warm weather • Went to SPAR (grocery store) for food • First time using Rand • Checked into the accommodation • Dinner at Col’ Cacchio • Good Pizza but not very good service • Had to wait the whole meal to get a glass of water

  3. Day 2 • Toured Nelson Mandela University • Looked a lot like UWGB • Saw a few monkeys • Had first lecture on volunteering and service work • Learned that you need to listen to the people you’re helping • They may not need help • Walked on the reserve by the campus

  4. Day 3 • Had a lecture on the Xhosa culture • They bury the umbilical cord so that they can trace back to their roots • The man is the head of the family • Culture tour of Port Elizabeth • Learned about the history • Went to the townships

  5. Day 4 • Toured Addo Elephant Park and Schotia Safaris • Had a Braii (cookout) • Night tour

  6. Day 5 • Woke up at 4 a.m. to watch sunrise • Went on an “easy” hike • Flea market on beachfront • SANCOBB Penguin Sanctuary

  9. Day 8 • Lecture on Death, Dying, and Bereavement • Mourning period for women should last a year • Visited First Avenue Funeral Home • Different funeral practices

  10. Day 9 • Visited Missionvale Care Center • In the townships • Visited Jerusalem Ministries • Had lunch with students from Masifunde

  11. Day 10 • Lectures on Trauma counseling • Taught us about PTSD and how to handle crisis • Uviwe child and youth services • UVIWE means you are heard • Services help educate children and parents • Visited Malabar Old Age Home • Residents there hardly get any visitors

  12. Day 11 • Depart for Farm Excursion • Hiked up a mountain • Swam with bees • Ate Kudu • Won bottle of wine for shooting the target • Fed farm animals

  13. Day 12 • Arrive in Tsitsikamma • Went to Tsitsikamma National park • Hiked on the trail and across the suspension bridge • Had dinner by the ocean at the Cattle Baron

  14. Day 13 • Went ziplining at Tsitsikamma Adventure Falls • Visited the Tsitsikamma Storms River Creche • Donated beanie babies

  15. Day 14 • Depart for Cape Town – 8 hour bus ride • Stopped at Birds of Eden on the way

  16. Day 15 • Went to Table Mountain • Rode the cableway to the top (scary) • Had lunch at the Waterfront • Went shopping • Visited Robben Island • Took a ferry • Learned about Nelson Mandela’s imprisonment • Dinner at Africa Cafe • Authentic African food

  17. Day 16 • Visited District Six Museum • Toured the neighborhood • Went to Cape of Good Hope • Got my water bottle stolen by a baboon • A lot of walking up steps • Where the Atlantic and Indian ocean meet

  18. Day 17- Last Day • Visit the Pebbles Project • Vans that travel to the students (computer, library, life skills) • Provide education, health, nutrition, community and protection • Visit to the Cape Spice Wine Route • Chocolate and wine tasting

  19. Day 18 • Depart for home
