  1. Organized by the European Federation for Psychosynthesis Psychotherapy (EFPP) With the cooperation of Società Italiana di Psicosintesi Terapeutica (SIPT) and Istituto di Psicosintesi THE SOUL DIMENSION AS A LIVING EXPERIENCE IN PSYCHOTHERAPY AND COUNSELING A Psychosynthesis Research Seminar in FIRENZE (Italy) Sunday October 13 and Monday October 14, 2013 What is the soul dimension? What does it mean to psychosynthesis? How is it applied in the context of psychotherapy and coaching? How is it different from philosophical and religious contexts? Most of all, what does it mean to us, in terms of our personal and professional practice? The Psychosynthesis Research Seminar is a specific seminar format, apart from a training seminar or a supervision group or a self-development workshop. The purpose is not to feed the participants with new data, but rather to convey and instil a spirit of deep authentic personal/professional discovery. The process combines both epistemology (i.e. how do we really know what we think we know) and research methodology . It requires a personal reflection on the presuppositions beneath meanings and assertions that we make. There is also a mutual agreement among group members including the leader not to hold to doctrinal ideas and mental constructs. The stance taken both by the group and the leader is a “not-knowing” and open stance. Research is commonly understood as academic research. Here, it refers to our deep personal experience as human beings and practitioners (counsellors, coaches, therapists). Sharing together and disclosing this tacit dimension of soul can be a joyous and moving experience, while, in the same time, remaining aware that what comes from the heart is a sharing, not an assertion of truth. Each group member could bring into the group his/her own model of clinical/professional/personal practice, and the group facilitates the application of a research model for each individual contribution. It could be done through using psychosynthesis tools such as reflective and/or receptive meditation, self-dialogue, etc. In a final stage that could be called creative synthesis , the leader and the group members share whatever insights they got out of the process. A collective research group project may emerge. This research process is an opportunity to build a sense of community , gathering people who share the same affinities of mind and heart. 2. Dear Colleagues, In the name of the European Federation for Psychosynthesis Psychotherapy ( EFPP ), I am very pleased to introduce to you the Psychosynthesis Research Seminar which will take place in Firenze on Sunday October 13 and Monday October 14 , 2013 on the theme: THE SOUL DIMENSION AS A LIVING EXPERIENCE IN PSYCHOTHERAPY AND COUNSELING It is organized by EFPP in cooperation with Società Italiana di Psicosintesi Terapeutica (SIPT) and Istituto di Psicosintesi. The Seminar is open to both counsellors and psychotherapists who will work in separate panels and subgroups. It will take place mainly in Villa la Stella and partly in the premises of SIPT and the Istituto di Psicosintesi, the former home of Roberto Assagioli. The first day is dedicated to Psychosynthesis and the Soul dimension . We will all meet for a morning plenary session at Villa la Stella, a hotel owned by a missionary order, in the hills above Firenze, at a walking distance from the Istituto and SIPT. This place was built in ‘200 and restored several times, surrounded by a private park with secular trees. It is said that the great poet Dante who lived nearby, used to come and find inspiration under a myrtle tree. If you come, you will find that tree which is still there and you will also have a panoramic view of Firenze. It is a propitious place for our research theme. Among the panel presenters: Gianni Yoav DATTILO will replace the dimension of the soul in its various contexts: philosophy, religion and psychosynthesis. It matters not to confuse contexts in which soul has different meanings. Massimo ROSSELLI will speak on the rights of the Soul and how psychopathology is linked with the denial of these rights. Out of his wide experience with schizophrenic people, Alberto ALBERTI will help translating the inverted language of the soul in psychotherapy. John WHITMORE , who was a pionneer of coaching and worked extensively with top managers for the past 30 years, will share his experience of bringing soul into the business world. Counselors and psychotherapists will meet separately in different groups with these four presenters. On the second day, there will be separate panels and subgroups on Applications in the fields of psychotherapy and counseling . In the panel for counsellors, Daniele De PAOLIS will link symptoms of collective and individual ill-being with the unheard soul. Helen PALMER and myself will share clinical applications of the sensory experience of the soul. In the panel for psychotherapists, Kristina BRODE who worked as oncology psychotherapist with cancer patients for more than 25 years, will present her work. Andrea BOCCONI who has practised meditation for a long time, will share his views on meditation and psychosynthesis psychotherapy. The stance taken both by the group and the leader is a “not-knowing” and open stance. Each group member could bring into the group his/her own model of clinical/professional/personal practice, and the group facilitates the application of a research model for each individual contribution. Further precisions on group working modalities will be given to registered participants before their arrival. We will be glad to welcome you at the research seminar. Participants will have the opportunity to work with some presenters who had direct contact with Roberto ASSAGIOLI. But all incoming participants will be able to meet the founder’s spirit and presence through the visit of his house recently beautifully restored. A group visit and pilgrimage is organized on the evening of October 13 . Kind regards, Tan NGUYEN , EFPP Chair Registration: tandante@gmail.com Please see the enclosed registration form (reduced rates for early birds, before June 15) Upon registration, you will receive detailed instructions and information concerning accommodation, local transportation, precisions for the research seminar, etc. There will be an Italian/English translation.
