About the traffic study • The result of citizen concerns about safety, congestion and emergency access on Rt 214 past Muddy Creek Road • Covers Rt 214 from Muddy Creek going east • Conducted by the county in November 2017 • Looks at peak travel times on weekdays and on Saturdays • Looks at current conditions and forecasts FUTURE conditions, with recommendations
7 Key Intersections 1. MD 214 at MD 268 (Muddy Creek) 2. MD 214 at Loch Haven 3. MD 214 at Selby Boulevard/River Road 4. MD 214 at Turkey Point Road 5. MD 214 at Shoreham Beach Road 6. MD 214 at Mayo Ave/Rogers Road 7. Shoreham Beach Road at Triton Beach Road • More info in next part of the presentation • Detailed data is in the report
Study Assumptions • The study assumes: • Full build-out of approximately 650 homes as forecast by the county • Approximately 1,126 parking spots as outlined in the current draft plans for county parks on the peninsula
General Conclusions • Conditions are expected to get a lot worse if development continues as expected • Full package of recommendations: approximately $35M • To think about: We need to identify which if any of the proposals should be acted on first – what gets the most bang for the buck and actually has a chance of being funded? • To think about: In pressing for changes to Rt 214, bear in mind that improvements may help with safety BUT can also create the chance to allow more development on the peninsula • To think about: If development continues as expected, the problems we have now will worsen, even if we act on the full package of recommendations
3 General Strategies Depending on the intersection… • Add lanes • Create traffic circles • Add shoulders for safety • Next: We’ll hear more about the study’s findings and some specifics on the 7 intersections • More options, and more details, are in the study itself.
