  2. Introduction Installation Using the Cache Manager What is the Cache Manager? The Cache Manager is a piece of software designed to aid in the monitoring of a LOCKSS Network. It provides a single site where the content of multiple caches can be examined. It also has the added benefit of allowing users to view information about the content of a cache without actually having access to the Administrative User Interface. Johnny Healey The Cache Manager

  3. Introduction Installation Using the Cache Manager Software Requirements Apache PHP (PHP4 known to work) CURL Johnny Healey The Cache Manager

  4. Introduction Installation Using the Cache Manager Installing the Cache Manager Untar the file Copy the code into a location in the apache webroot Add the locations of the LOCKSS caches to the configuration Reconfigure the Network to grant the Cache Manager access Johnny Healey The Cache Manager

  5. Introduction Installation Using the Cache Manager Walkthrough of the Installation To demonstrate how easy it is, I’m going to walk through the installation of the Conspectus Database. Johnny Healey The Cache Manager

  6. Introduction Installation Using the Cache Manager Configuring the Conspectus Database The Configuration file contains a hash of the caches which maps a name to the location of the cache. It also contains the username and password that is used to access the information on each cache. Johnny Healey The Cache Manager

  7. Introduction Installation Using the Cache Manager Configuring the Global Debugging User If each cache in your network is administrated by a different user, they are likely (hopefully) using different passwords to access their administrative user interfaces. Fortunately, the LOCKSS title database allows for the definition of a global username and password. All that is required is a username and an MD5sum of the desired password. 8. Introduction Installation Using the Cache Manager Configuring the Caches The cache manager also must be granted access to the LOCKSS Administrative User Interface. This can be done from within the administrative interface or alternately through the title database. Johnny Healey The Cache Manager

  9. Introduction Installation Using the Cache Manager Demo of the Cache Manager Here’s a quick demonstration of how the cache manager is used. Johnny Healey The Cache Manager

  10. Introduction Installation Using the Cache Manager Conspectus Integration The Cache Manager can also be integrated with the Conspectus Database. This allows authentication against the user list of the Conspectus. Johnny Healey The Cache Manager
