The ram then pushes the can through three or four successive dies, each getting smaller in diameter until the final wall thickness is arrived at through a process known as thinning or ‘ironing’ The metal flows back up the can wall and increases the can height www.slac.com.cn www.slac.com.cn

The ram pushes the can onto the base forming tool, which gives the end a pressure resistant and stackable ‘dome’ shape www.slac.com.cn www.slac.com.cn

The Boxer • Two cans from each stroke • Two reciprocating rams on a single flywheel, with toolpacks at either end • Driven by a single central motor and crankshaft Dynamic Balance • Working like a ‘contra engine’, the rams operate in opposite directions, counteracting horizontal vibration force and creating an almost perfect dynamic balance. www.slac.com.cn
