How we Selected our Content In line with recommendations from the Centre for Wellbeing at The New Economics Foundation the portal promotes strategies around the 5 ways to wellbeing which improve mental health. The teaching of emotional intelligence (EI) which is advocated by The World Economic Forum has been incorporated into the portal. EI is vital for mental health and is a greater predictor of success in almost every field of work than either prior work experience or standard IQ score, we value the importance of developing this in employees. As mental health is a continuum employees are supported to track and monitor their personal mental and physical health journey. They will develop individually through engaging in strategies recommended through the portal. In turn they are healthier both mentally and physically, they are more resilient and they acquire positive attitudes.
What do Employees have Access to? • Each employee is provided with a personal account on our portal, enabling their mental health and wellbeing to be monitored, using our assessment scale ( this can be likened to a Fitbit for the mind ). • With a basic level of EI we can all take a more proactive approach to our mental health, happiness and wellbeing. Employees upskill in this area through completion of HEADSSUP via the portal. • Reports are provided which display the distance travelled in relation to mental health for each employee, as a result of engaging with any of our recommended strategies. • The content is based around the 5 ways to wellbeing ( adopted by MIND the mental health charity and by the NHS ). Employees are advised of a range of strategies which relate to being active, connecting with others, learning new skills, giving back to others and being mindful.
What do Employees have Access to? • Through use of our portal, organisations are also provided with the facility to evidence and measure the impact of their current mental health and wellbeing initiatives. • Essentially HR departments are empowered to monitor and evaluate both the mental and physical health and wellbeing journey of their employees from a supportive perspective. • Employees will develop individually through acting upon the advice accessed through the portal.
The Power of Physical Activity • Physical activity positively affects mental health and even reduces the symptoms of anxiety and mild/moderate depression. Therefore, this is promoted as a dominant coping mechanism for the maintenance of mental health. • A BMI tracker is installed in the portal allowing employees to also measure the positive effects on physical health of engaging in recommended activities. This links to education on nutrition as well as mood and food. • A mental health scale is used to measure against, and employees are advised of strategies they can use in order to achieve both mental and physical health.
Th The AR Portal Each organisation will have members of staff who will become AR Portal Administrators. This simple role will include generating user accounts for each employee – a full PDF administrators guide will be provided.
The AR Portal Within the portal, employees can: • Complete a mental health / mental resilience scale questionnaire • Calculate their Body Mass Index (BMI) • Record their recent behaviour against the 5 ways to wellbeing • For each of the 5 ways to wellbeing, set goals to improve their experiences • Access and complete the HEADSSUP EI programme
