  2. 2018 Rotary International Convention Toronto, Canada Rotary is a global network of 35,000 clubs, 1.2 million neighbours, friends • and leaders who together make lasting change in communities at home and abroad. In 2018, the global network will convene in Toronto, Canada from June 23 • to June 27, 2018. With the spirit of true Canadian hospitality, we will welcome over 25,000 Rotarians from around the world and share ideas, welcome over 25,000 Rotarians from around the world and share ideas, best practices, and project successes. During the past 100 years, Rotary clubs have spent $3 billion on life- • changing, sustainable projects. From literacy, polio, education and peace ….to water, health and economic action, Rotary Clubs are always working to better our world. We would like to engage your Rotary Club and local youth from your community to help celebrate our achievements. 2

  3. Inspiration Around Every Corner. We would like to engage your youth and your community The 2018 Host Organizational Committee wishes to engage your Rotary club in a grassroots project that will educate local youth on Rotary values, while simultaneously celebrating our achievements. In partnership with VIBE Arts , the 2018 Host Organizational Committee (HOC) wishes to engage up to 30 Rotary Clubs and their local community in the creation of large murals that reflect the gifts and values of the Rotary movement. that reflect the gifts and values of the Rotary movement. Who is VIBE ARTS? Established in 1995, VIBE Arts is a charity that provides opportunities for • marginalized youth in under-resourced communities so that they can engage meaningfully in free high quality arts education. For example, VIBE works with Boys and Girls clubs, shelters, schools, community centers, public housing, hospitals, hospices, libraries, detention centers and shopping malls. This is an opportunity to invest in youth from your community. In collaboration • with VIBE Arts, you will help identify a local youth charity or agency who will benefit from the programming at no cost. For more information on VIBE Arts, please visit vibearts.ca 3

  4. How does it work? Local youth create art Participation is requested. In collaboration with VIBE Arts, your local Rotary Club will suggest and help • identify a local agency or charity working with marginalized youth. Perhaps this is an organization that has benefited from a Rotarian gift in the past or perhaps this is a new and deserving organization. A Local Artist is hired. VIBE Arts will work with the agency to identify a local artist who will guide the • youth in the creation of the 6 feet x 4 feet mural. Typically 15-20 youth are involved in the creation of a large mural. Materials are shipped free of charge. A 6 feet x 4 feet blank canvas, art supplies i.e. Paint, brushes, • etc. an educational toolkit are all shipped to the selected agency or organization. The theme is researched and explored. Art is created. Youth will be inspired to explore themes dear • to Rotarians such as promoting peace and community harmony, wellness, a healthy environment, economic vitality, etc. Youth will research the theme and learn about the importance of Rotary clubs in their neighbourhood. Under the leadership of the professional artist, youth will then create two original 6 feet x 4 feet murals which express two of the themes. Local Media: When the mural is finished, there will be an opportunity to introduce the murals and • their story to the local media; VIBE Arts will prepare a template media release to assist with this opportunity to build your brand and projects locally. Murals are shipped back to VIBE Arts. The murals are then shipped back to VIBE for digital • reproduction and for the exhibition. There is no cost to the local agency/organization or school. 4

  11. As an example, for the 150 project in Mississauga, we partnered with Morning Star Middle School (30 students) and Nexus Youth Services (15 participants) to illustrate the following reasons Why We Love Canada: "Freedom", the "Trans Canada Highway", "Peace", and "Summer". Feedback from the youth artists: "The main impact for us was the discussions leading up to the creation. It encouraged us to think of Canada in deeper/different ways". The youth also said : "I could see the group grow more confident to speak up around each other which was great. Towards the end of the project I also saw the group painting with greater care and confidence". In 2017, VIBE partnered with Community Foundations of Canada and various corporate partners in the creation of an art exhibit for Canada’s 150 th birthday. Youth explored important values associated with REASONS WE LOVE CANADA. Above we see Peace, Trans Canada Highway and Summer (3/60 images).
