EXPLORATION 2013-2014 SOMITA SA • Main exploration strategies • Previous exploration – Taparko Mining License • 2013 exploration program – Taparko Mining License • Previous exploration – HRG exploration permits • 2013 exploration program – HRG exploration permits • Challenges and objectives • 2013 work performed and main results to date • Exploration planned Q4-2013 and 2014 3
Main exploration strategies • A. Prolong the life of Taparko mine with discovery of additional reserves for the existing mine and mill infrastructure (i.e. within say, 10 km, from the ROMpad) • B. Determine the potential of the various exploration targets (including previously defined targets and newly conceptualized targets) on the HRG exploration permits in the Taparko-Bouroum area as well as the southern part of the Taparko Mining License (i.e. more than 10 km from the ROMpad), integrating the recently acquired airborne geophysics into the vast existing exploration database 4
Previous exploration - Taparko Mining License HRG exploration 1996-2003 highlights - 400 x 400m regional soils and extensive grab sampling - Some ground geophysics - Development drilling at Taparko - Two satellite discoveries : - Zemce (today ~15 000oz at 2.8 g/t Au) - Goengo (today ~300 000oz at 1.4 g/t Au) - Very minor reconnaissance exploration at Bore (E of Tpko) and Levry (SW corner of Mining Lic) - Targets at Taranga-Dyakolra (Areas7-8) 5
Main conclusions Taparko Mining License A. 1)HRG regional field procedures 1996-2003 are considered to have been perfectly appropriate but exploration commitments on the other permits resulted in : No significant exploration on the Taparko Mining License (665 km 2 ) since 2003 B. 1)The high quality of the HRG 1996-2003 exploration work, along with the tenacious prospection of the area by hungry orpailleurs, suggests that in all probability, any significant outcropping gold mineralization has already been discovered (Zemce, Goengo, Levry) C. Any mineralization that may be waiting to be discovered (especially within 10 km of the ROMpad) will therefore in all probability be located in an area with transported laterite or alluvial cover D. Exploration procedures 2013 will be executed with a higher level of technical rigour compared to 1996-2003 procedures – under the assumption that if we repeat what has already been done we will only find what has already been found 6
2013 exploration program Taparko ML Geophysics – newly acquired 100x100m airborne geophysics data (magnetics, radiometrics, A. VTEM electromagnetics) increases the technical level of the geophysics at the scale of the ML compared to the regional government surveys Geochemistry – regional geochemistry will sample termite mounds** instead of traditional B. soils, at 200 x 200m spacing, compared to previous 400 x 400m; in-fill sampling of anomalies identified close to the ROMpad may be performed prior to complete coverage of the ML at 200 x 200m C. Mapping – increase the technical level of the mapping by using senior geologists D. Continue resource/reserve drilling in close proximity to the existing open pits E. Special attention to the northern extension of 3/5 pit, using S plunge model Special attention to Goengo, 15 km from the ROMpad, where significant exploration potential F. may be opened up with detailed mapping and intepretation of existing drilling, integrated with the new detailed geophysics 7
