THE DEMAND FOR DESALINATION In 2014 TRIWATER, represented by Joe Bailey Guerrero, inventor and manufacturer of the T1 Advance +, a Philippine made high performing mobile water treatment system, visited multiple islands to assess the viability of implementing a DESALINATION project. The Philippines is an archipelago composed of 7107 islands of which approximately 2000 are inhabited. Of these 2000 inhabited islands, approximately 8% or 160 islands have no access to fresh water. It was observed that most island’s inhabitants are solely dependent on deep well water and rain water collectors. During summer months, islands run the risk of wells and collectors running dry. Water from these sources are used for their daily water requirements for drinking, washing, bathing etc.
THE DEMAND FOR DESALINATION For drinking water, the situation is dire. Island residents are forced to send pump boats to the mainland to purchase potable water. Transport and handling fees increase the cost of by almost 100%. The high cost of potable water force island inhabitants to drink water from questionable sources leading to disease and long term health problems. Due to the lack of fresh water sources on these islands, TRIWATER believes that the implementation of small scale desalination systems is the key to changing and improving the lives of these people. Having an operating small scale desalination plant on these islands producing 12,000 to 25,000 liters of fresh water per day will significantly improve their quality of life.
