  3. SURVEY GOALS 1. Confirm key priorities for the three sub- areas 2. Discern what is most valued about the character and vibrancy of the City Northville.org 3. Identify potential opportunities, needs and concerns with the future of the three sub-areas

WHO RESPONDED?  Survey open for 9 weeks  1,000 people responded (1 paper response): • 57% were City residents • 6% were City business owners • 8% work in City of Northville Downtownnorthville.com  37% were Township residents, business owners or worked in Northville Township* *Respondents were allowed to check more than one box. Therefore, there is some cross-over.

  5. WHO RESPONDED?  The report describes the results of ALL respondents.  The data from City of Northville residents & business owners was broken out from the overall responses to see if there were any differences from the overall sample.  There is not a significant difference from the Downtownnorthville.com overall sample for almost all of the questions.  If responses differed by more than 5%, then it is noted in the narrative.

PERCEIVED COMMUNITY PRIORITIES  Respondents asked to indicate if they agree, disagree or are neutral on the following statements: New development should… Agree Disagree Neutral Blend seamlessly with the surrounding areas. 88% 9% 3% Maintain/enhance walkability in these sub-areas. 97% 3% 0% Facilitate pedestrian and vehicular connections between areas. 94% 4% 1% Include welcoming public spaces that can be used by all 90% 8% 1% Northville residents. All respondents for question: N=992 for statements on design and walkability, N=991 for statement on connections, and N=987 for statement on welcoming places.

PERCEIVED COMMUNITY PRIORITIES  Additional comments: • Density should be the same as existing neighborhoods • Concerns about traffic, parking, round-about & pedestrian safety • Daylighting the river and open space are priorities • Differing opinions about housing types and architectural style • A few asked that the racetrack be preserved

OTHER THOUGHTS  Decisions about redevelopment of sub-areas will have long-ranging impacts, with a single opportunity to get it right  Some questioned who initiated redevelopment of the racetrack…the property owner or City?  While some were concerned with density, others saw this as an opportunity for more-affordable/senior housing  Some saw recreation as an opportunity (fitness center)  Organizing principles suggested include: “placemaking,” “sustainability,” “balance of economic, environmental, equity”
