SECOND AND THIRD YEAR SHARED HOUSES • Typically rented in groups of three to five. • Pay on average £75 to £85 a week sharing with other students. • Allow approximately £15-£20 per week for bills LODGINGS • Landlord lives on the premises such as family households, guesthouses, or houses owned by other students. • All utility bills are included • Pay around £80 to £90 a week for the room

UNIVERSITY BURSARIES AND SCHOLARSHIPS • Each institution will have its own bursary and / or scholarship schemes • Usually ‘bursaries’ depend on household income and ‘scholarships’ depend on achievement • There may be discounts on tuition fees, money towards living costs or other benefits you could apply for • Check university websites for what’s on offer, eligibility criteria and application processes
BUDGETING: Keep track of money THINGS TO CONSIDER • Student bank account • Bills are included in first year in halls but not when renting a house. • Always ask yourself the question 'do I really need this?’ • Need a new laptop - buy it in the summer! • Look out for student discounts - NUS card • Students do not need to pay council tax! • Value ranges / bulk buy. • Part time job
