Introduction : Background • Increasing Energy Consumption Gaikindo, Cars Sales during Jan – Nov. 2013 : 3389 car/day • AISI : Motorcycles Sales during Jan – Nov. 2013 : 20184/day • BPS : Total Vehicles until 2011 : 9,5 Million Cars and 68,8 Million Motorcycles • MOLINA Roadmap : 60% Fuel Consumption used in Transportation sector • Environment Pollution • +/- 70 % Air Pollution due to Vehicle Operations [Bappenas] • Indonesia Pollution level exceeding WHO standard and causing health related • expenses equal to 38.5 Trillion IDR for Jakarta only.[Kementerian LingkunganHidup, AAI Summit 2013] Fuel Subsidy • Fuel Consumption 1,5 Million barrel/day, production 804.000 barrel/day, needs • import on Fuel equal to 120 million USD/day [Menteri ESDM, 26 Februari 2014] • In 2013 Fuel subsidy reach 224 Triliun IDR [per November 2013, Dirjen Perbendaharaan Kemenkeu] Issue on Indonesia ’s Energy Security 4

MOLINA Research Status • Research & Development activities through 5 leading state university UI, ITB, UGM, UNS and ITS ,referring to Molina Roadmap and CDTI-A documents and planning. • Research & Development activities, initiated in 2012 .Reported activity during 2012-2013, shows a good results and progress. • Some constraints are identified especially in limited available time for spending the allocated budget and the status differences on 5 state university involved in Molina Program. 11

Conclusions • Molina Research and Development activities needs for significant and sustainable funding • Bench marking, harmonization and cooperation with more advanced countries, especially AAI members, such as Korea, China, Japan and India can speed up and contribute to the success of the Molina R&D program • Establishment of National R&D Center for EV(CDTI-A) is very important for coordinating and controlling Molina R&D program. 29
